Vanity

Looks busy. Pays nothing. Nobody ever settled a bill with a screenshot of reach.
PPC for local businesses
Every pound you put into Google should come back heavier. I run paid search for local businesses who want a fair fight. You don’t need a bigger budget than the chain down the road — you need a sharper one.
The scoreboard
Vanity
Looks busy. Pays nothing. Nobody ever settled a bill with a screenshot of reach.
A cost
A click is a stranger with a price tag. A customer has a name, a job, and a postcode you actually cover.
The point
The only two numbers that tell you if the ads are doing a job — or just making a Google invoice look busy.
The only two numbers
Agencies love graphs with no axis labels. I don’t. If you can’t name these two figures, you’re not running ads. You’re buying activity and hoping it was worth it.
Return on ad spend
Revenue ÷ ad spend
Spend £2,000. Get £8,000 back. That’s 4×. One question: did the ads pay? If nobody in the room can say this number, the account is a guess with a login.
Return on investment
Profit ÷ what you actually put in
ROAS says if the ads paid. ROI says if you did. A 5× ROAS on a 10% margin can still lose money. Anyone who quotes one without the other is selling you a story.
I won’t send you a report that leads with impressions. If that sounds blunt, good. Blunt is cheaper than a wasted month.
Your numbers
Slide your budget, your margin, and a ROAS. Watch ROI tell the truth — including the bit where a “good” ROAS still loses money.

A little left — £400. One quiet month and it disappears. Don’t celebrate this.
This is arithmetic, not a forecast. I don’t promise a multiple. I promise you’ll know yours. ROAS is not profit — ROI still has to survive the actual work.
Why I do this
SEO takes time. Social is a maybe. A search ad shows up the second someone types what you do.
I do PPC because local businesses get treated like leftovers on platforms built for brands that can burn a quarter “testing.” You can’t. Every wasted click is a real invoice — not a line in a brand deck.
Paid search is the closest thing a small business has to a fair fight. You don’t need to outspend the national chain. You need to show up for the search they’ll never care about like you do: your town, your service, someone who needs it today.
That’s why I do this. Not to make ads prettier. To stop good local businesses paying for noise.
Local
When someone searches “boiler repair near me”, they’re not comparing brand values. They need heat. This afternoon. In their postcode. I build for that moment — your streets, your jobs, your hours. I don’t point a national campaign at your town and hope.
01
National brands buy the internet. You buy the moment someone is ready. Different sport — and it’s one you can win.
02
Spend that leaks into a postcode you don’t serve isn’t awareness. It’s waste with a nicer name.
03
Campaigns built around the work you take, the hours you can cover, and the jobs you actually want — not a generic list copied from a competitor.
04
If a click can’t be tied to a call, a form, or a booking, it isn’t a result. It’s a cost with better PR.
How I work
Account or no account. Leads or a gut feel. We start with the numbers you actually have — not a fantasy funnel.
A click has to turn into a call, a form, or a booking. Until it can, every tweak is theatre.
The terms people type when they’re ready to buy. Not the ones that look busy in a screenshot.
Waste is a habit. I kill it on a schedule. What pays gets protected. What doesn’t gets dropped.
If a report needs a translator, it isn’t a report. You’ll know what came back, and what it cost to get it.
